Hello there,

I am a visual artist with experience in art, education and communication. Back in 2020 I set up FILFLA STUDIO as a creative vehicle for storytelling through 2D animation and digital art. Since then I have worked and collaborated with numerous talents - scriptwriters, graphic novelists, illustrators, animation artists, sound artists and 3D artists to produce a number of animated shorts and a graphic novel.

My animated shorts ‘Filfla’ (2020) and ‘Somewhere’ (2023) went on to win the Kinemastik International Short Film Festival Audience Award and the French Riviera Film Festival Best Animation Award, respectively. My graphic novel ‘Sarangu: The Sack Man’ found international distribution and is now in bookstores in London, Berlin and Malta.

I am responsible for the development, pitching and financing of projects as well as managing the production and post-pro- duction process through a number of collaborations with various talents.
​
My main areas of interests are concept art, background paintings and 2D - frame by frame animation.
​
Since 2024 I have been adapting my traditional style of animation for ventures that can support businesses and organizations in promoting their products or stories in a cost and time effective manner while also retaining the art qualities that distinguish my work.

Soho'56
Filfla Studio was set up in part to support the launching of its first animated short: Filfla. This production went on to win the Kinematic International Short Film Festival Audience Award and being selected to other international selections including screenings at the prestigious Encounters Film Festival.
A busy period in the development of original productions. Mr. Teddy is Angry (2021) received a New Talent Award by The Malta Film Commission with numerous Official Selections. This production was followed by 'Sarangu: The Sack Man' (2022) a graphic novel which received international distribution and is now in bookshops in Malta, London and Berlin.

Somewhere (2023) is Filfla Studio's most successful production winning the French Riviera Film Festival for best animation and selected for Fest - New Directors | New Film Festivals and Bengaluru International Short Film Festivals, both Academy Award Qualifiers Film Festivals.
Filfla Studio launched its Merch series at the Little Concept Store in Sliema offering limited edition prints as well as sketchbooks of its animation art work.

Filfla Studio evolution continued by blending traditional frame-by-frame animation with cutting edge technology to offer services for businesses, theatre productions and social media campaigns.

Soho'56 is Filfla Studio's flagship and most ambitious original production. Based on the book by Matthew Vella 'Passport to Vice', this animated short documents the brutal SOHO scene of the 1950s and the role of the Maltese Syndicate in the violence and sex that shaped the London district for years to come.
